Central Asian Uzbek Silk Chirpi Kaftan Robe

Beautiful flowing kaftans made of wool, cashmere, silk, or cotton are part of ancient Turkic and Middle-Eastern traditions and were a symbol of royalty. During the Ottoman period a kaftan’s decorations, including the colors, patterns, ribbons, and buttons held their own symbolism. The most valuable fabrics were those with “yollu” vertical stripes with various embroideries and small patterns called “Selimiye” fabrics.
